About John Galvin
The first local authority I was elected to was Huddersfield County Borough in 1970, on which I served until the demise of the authority in 1974. I was then elected to Kirklees in 1978 and served until 1982. Whilst on Kirklees Council I served on the Association of Municipal Authorities Housing Committee in London.
I was the first Parish Clerk when the Parish Council of Mirfield was created in 1988 whilst also being a Parish Councillor. I moved to work in York in 1989 and came to live in Bishopthorpe in 1990. I was first elected to the City of York Council in 1999 but following Ward Boundary changes and moving wards I lost my seat on the Council. From 2003 until 2007 I served on Acaster Malbis Parish Council being it's chairman from 2004 until 2007.
