I am sure that like me you will be pleased when the work on the Water Mains is completed, I am given to understand that this work will be completed within the next two to three weeks. I am further advised that the contractors will have the affected roads swept with a mechanical street sweeper and general tidying up of the pavements etc., If following such cleaning, there are still street cleanliness issues then please let me know.
In much of the ward the grass verges have been damaged and again I understand remedial work will be undertaken in the Spring.
Good to see that a Councillor on the other side of York is alert to what is going on and needed in his ward.
Sadly, my recent empirical experience suggests that this has ceased to be the case in the 3-Member, Haxby & Wigginton ward, where complacency has seen unacceptable increases of graffiti being seen and reported by the public (me!) ...but ignored by the local trio.
While this 'art work' appears on privately-owned commercial property (Haxby Shopping Centre: proprietor CT Metcalfe), so the Council cannot just proceed with remedial work, nearly 6 weeks has elapsed since this issue was brought to the attention of CYC.
It is the policy of both York Council AND North Yorkshire Police, that Grafitti be removed ASAP, since its presence serves as an indicator of indifference to a decline in standards, which then, predictably, manifests itself with higher levels of crime, notably vandalism.
