About the Trust

The Trust was established in 2001 to administer the Millennium Fund raised by the Village Millennium Committee, the Bishopthorpe Local History Group and the Bishopthorpe Pageant during events in 2000.

The Trust's principal aim is:

To use the Village Millennium Funds (and other funds that can be raised) for the benefit of the inhabitants of Bishopthorpe, and in particular, its younger people.

The Trust is composed of people living in the Village, who usually meet together once a month to consider the overall work of the Trust, and to evaluate any bids made to it for funding. Each Trust member is expected to contribute time and skills to assisting in Village projects. The Trust has representation from the Parish Council and the Ecumenical Partnership.

The Trust uses its funding in four main ways
· small grants to local organisations
· pump-priming interest free loans to village activities
· as match funding for bids to other funders for local projects
· to support longer term strategies for village improvements.

As a Charitable Trust, the Trust does not fund activities that would otherwise normally be funded by public authorities.

Minutes of meetings of the Trust are deposited in a file at Bishopthorpe Library, or can be downloaded here.
