Questionnaires are being distributed in Bishopthorpe (as usual, only one per household) soliciting opinions about strategies for traffic planning in York.
Suggestions made are based on expectations of traffic growth. These assumptions are probably justified. At any rate, it is prudent to assume a worst case scenario and plan accordingly.
As usual, the questionnaire should be considered carefully. Radical changes suggested include road pricing and a tax on workplace parking. There is, as usual, a heavy bias in favour of the dangerous and minority activity of cycling! There are suggestions with regard to the by-pass, and to Park & Ride.
It is very important that we complete and return these questionnaires. There is always a danger that the field is left open to those with vested interests (who always reply) whilst the typical citizen (whoever he or she is) can't be bothered to respond.
The results of surveys are used as evidence that a particular solution is what local people want. You have a chance to make sure that your opinion is heard.
