Irritating Eleven

Not the England cricket team with its disappointing performances, but the No. 11 bus which when early now waits out the time at the Acaster Lane/Main St. stop.

The terminus is shown in the published timetables as Keble Park South. I have been told by drivers that they are instructed to wait at the bottom of Acaster Lane because a Keble Park South resident has complained about engine noise from buses parked near his/her house. If this is so, (s)he has reason to complain. The problem is, however, not that the terminus is in the wrong place but that waiting drivers don't switch off their engines. Simply to instruct them to take their noise elsewhere is ludicrous. I imagine residents opposite the new terminus are delighted!

It is a considerable annoyance to people living along Acaster Lane and Keble Park to be kept waiting on the bus - sometimes for seven or eight  minutes - almost in sight of home. A glance at the passengers still on the bus on which I returned today suggested eight people directly affected, plus one lady who got off and walked. On my bus yesterday, there were four.

Since drivers tend now to leave the new terminus at the old time, buses arrive late in Keble Park and town-bound passengers are kept standing in the cold.

It would be interesting to hear other views on this topic. I am not happy!
