Bishop of Birmingham appointed to See of York

Rt Rev John Sentamu, the Church of England’s first black Archbishop

John Sentamu, Bishop of Birmingham, has been appointed as the new Archbishop of York to replace David Hope, Downing Street announced this morning. He is expected to take up his post in the late autumn.

He is 56 and married with two grown-up children.

Bishopthorpe Fun Dog Show

Sunday 12th June saw the opening of the second fun dog show by the BBC's Clare Frisby on the sports ground in Ferry Lane.

Riverside changes

The riverside at the end of Ferry Lane has changed again, with a new barrier installed that is locked at 10.00 in the evening and opened again at 7.00 to prevent unlawful access to the caravan site. The owner of the site is reported to have also been responsible for the improvements to the old ferry landing stage, which has new steps and moorings as shown below.
