Last week, work started on the new play area adjacent to Keble Park North & Lamplugh Crescent.
The contract has been awarded to Playdale, with anticipated completion prior to Christmas.
The area will include a trim trail, zip wire, climbing frame, toddler area, a large mound with tunnels through and swings & slides, amongst other apparatus.
Further progress will be reported in due course.
We have waited so long for this play area, I am delighted that at last something worth while is being built, our children deserve it.
My house is one of many which backs on to this play area, at one point we were looking like having sheltered or affordable housing. None of the options would have met with support from all. I would rather hear children laughing than look at roofs of houses. But that aside, I too am very worried that the local vandals will quickly get to work on the play area. It makes me very sad that we know they are out there, but they cant be trusted to respect this valuable resource. Best we can do is ring the o845 number every time we see them out there, and hopefully the police will respond appropriately. Feels like a limited solution, but not sure what else is really an option...gates they would get over...and probably damage in the process.
Are users aware of a new facility in Keble Park North which may attract further anti-social behaviour – the Children’s Play Area?
The play area has been planned and built without the involvement of local residents whom have voiced several concerns, which appear to have fallen on deaf ears at the Parish Council. We have recently learnt that are to be no security gates on the area to prevent teenagers and youths frequenting the area in the evenings. This can only encourage and lead to anti-social behaviour and possible damage to this valid facility. How long before we see a further act of vandalism or arson around this facility?
This is a valued facility but we need to protect both it and residents privacy.
Would appreciate any feedback on this from local residents.
