Bishopthorpe
York
We offer horticultural and craftwork opportunities for adults with learning difficulties. Our staff lead sessions with the aid of many valued volunteers to enhance the workers skills in various activities including shop work, cooking, crafts, woodwork, horticulture, garden services and also 1:1 work where applicable. Our Charity registration number is 1010178.
Horticulture
Our horticulture teams grow a wide range of organic vegetables and plants in pots for sale. Our shop and plant nursery in Bishopthorpe is open 7 days a week from 10am – 5pm.
Garden Services
The garden services teams undertake landscape projects and garden maintenance locally and in the wider York area. Specialities are accessible gardens with raised beds and sensory gardens. Due to expansion they are now able to take on more work and are particularly looking for regular garden maintenance jobs in the local area to allow some workers to work more independently. For estimates or enquiries please contact Geoff Freeston.
Crafts and Gifts
Handmade greeting cards, wrapping paper, jewellery, scarves, rugs and much more. If you would like a certain item made with a specific colour or design in mind please contact us.
Café
Brunswick’s weekend café is open from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holidays, right through until October. The café serves vegetarian light lunches, drinks, and lovely homemade cakes all made by our cooking teams.
Could you become one of our volunteers?
Brunswick currently has over 70 committed volunteers. They offer their time, energy, enthusiasm and skills in a number of different ways. Their involvement makes a huge difference to the work we do. Volunteers support and work alongside small teams of adults with learning difficulties. They also help with site jobs; fundraising events and help run the Brunswick shop and café at weekends.
We currently have vacancies in horticulture and a vacancy for a volunteer with good DIY skills to help our caretaker/handyman with essential maintenance jobs around the main site and walled garden in Bishopthorpe. Ideally you would be available to help 1 or 2 days a week.
For more information about any of these volunteer roles please contact Caroline McMahon, Volunteer Co-ordinator
