We enjoyed Sunday’s glorious Yorkshire Grand Depart so much that we’re loathe to take down the decorations. Le Tour de France may not have come closer to Bishopthorpe than the racecourse, but that didn’t stop yellow bikes and bunting being displayed throughout the village. In Church Lane, the occasion was also used to collect for charity.
Hairdresser, Jacqui, used a customer’s yellow bike for display in her shop window in Acaster Lane. She was lucky as the customer, Kate Radley, also supplied a “model” cyclist as well! Kate is a volunteer with Riding for the Disabled and Jacqui supplied a collecting tin for customers to drop in a donation. In just a few days, GBP73 was collected.
